New Data Center Opens to Rave Reviews On Wednesday, June 27, Perot Systems enhanced its data center services offering by officially opening the Building K data center facility at the Plano Technology Center. The completion of the data center is due to the successful teamwork between Perot Systems’ Infrastructure Solutions (IS) and Facility teams, headed by Leon Lowery, Tommy Lawrence and Kevin Artman, and the Parsons’ project team led by Jim Kyles and Jim Harkey. The occasion was commemorated with a facility tour, ribbon cutting ceremony and reception attended by Perot Systems’ and Parsons’ executive leadership, along with the companies’ team members directly involved with the project.
Perot Systems’ IS teams manage over 20 worldwide data centers, including 18 client-managed facilities and three premier data center facilities: the Plano Technology Center (PTC), the Northeast Technology Center (NTC) and the Florence Technology Center (FTC). The data centers manage mission-critical computer systems on a regional basis. The Building K project was designed to roll out in three phases: Phase I provides 18,000 square feet of raised floor at 100 watts per square foot (wsf); Phase II will double the floor space and Phase III will increase the power density to 160 wsf. The end capacity will be 816 server cabinets, providing data center space for three years. Parsons was selected to design and construct the state-of-the-art facility. Jim McNulty, chairman and chief executive officer of Parsons commented, “Perot Systems has provided top notch service from Day One. It is especially satisfying for Parsons to be able to give back to the partnership by way of this project. Thank you for the great work you have done for us and for the opportunity to serve you.”
At the reception held after the ribbon cutting ceremony, Peter Altabef, president and chief executive officer of Perot Systems, remarked, “June 27th is an important day for Perot Systems. In addition to being Ross Perot’s birthday and the day Perot Systems was founded in 1988, we can now add the opening of this facility to the list of milestones. We are indebted to Parsons for their help in completing this expansion and look forward to our continued partnership, which celebrates its 10th anniversary on June 30th.” In appreciation and acknowledgement of the teams’ hard work, Darcy Anderson, chief people officer and vice president for corporate support, presented engraved, crystal mementos to everyone involved in the project. Prior to the data center opening ceremony the Perot Systems Board of Directors toured the facility and later that day more than 400 associates were given a tour. The tours highlighted the center’s technological innovations. |
