Ross Perot—son of cotton broker Gabriel Ross Perot, U.S. Naval Academy graduate and veteran, one-time top IBM salesman—is widely acknowledged as the founder of the IT services industry.
In 1962, Mr. Perot established the industry when, with a $1000 loan from his wife Margot, he founded Electronic Data Systems (EDS), a company he would sell 22 years later to General Motors.
In June 1988, Mr. Perot and eight associates with diverse industry expertise founded Perot Systems. By 1995, Perot Systems was 25 times larger than EDS was at seven years old. By 2000, Perot Systems was as large as EDS was when it was sold to General Motors. Today, Perot Systems is a Fortune 1000 corporation with more than 23,000 associates and 2007 revenues of $2.6 billion.
Mr. Perot has served on the Board of Directors of Perot Systems from April 1988 to August 1994 and from November 1997 to the present. From April 1988 to June 1992 and again from August 2000 to September 2004, Mr. Perot held the position of chairman of the company.
In September 2004, Mr. Perot was named Chairman Emeritus of the Board of Directors. Today, Ross Perot, Jr. is Chairman of the Board, and Peter Altabef is President & Chief Executive Officer of Perot Systems.
