HIT Policy Committee Meeting

With the final draft of the “meaningful use” matrix published, ONC has dedicated the last few months of 2009 to informational hearings in anticipation for the upcoming year. The two-day hearing held Oct. 28-29 was met with much skepticism. The condensed timeline and financial burdens were among the chief complaints regarding the recommendations heading to CMS. At the front of the pushback were small practice physicians and specialists. Despite these concerns, the advisory committee acknowledged that the progression to regulatory change for meeting the 2011 deadline would be difficult to change. The proposed rule will be released at the end of December and opened to public comment, and the Final Rule is expected in the Spring 2010.
