The Good, The Bad And The Ugly
The ongoing saga.
The Good – In a move designed to show confidence in the U.S. technology sector, President Obama met with several tech CEOs this past week in California, including Mark Zuckerberg, Eric Schmidt and Larry Ellison. This follows the president’s meeting in Washington earlier this month with our own CEO, Michael Dell, and other members of the Technology CEO Council. Taxes, trade, deficit reduction and technological innovation were discussed at both meetings.
The Bad – The cost of living in America is rising according to the U.S. Department of Labor. The consumer-price index rose 0.4 percent for the second consecutive month, driving up the cost of food to the highest prices in two years. Other commodities have increased their rates, including airline fares, tires and clothing. Just when we thought consumer confidence was on the rise…
The Ugly – Turmoil continues to rage in the Middle East as all eyes now turn from Cairo to Manama, the capital of Bahrain. Egypt-style demonstrations began on Monday with protestors demanding political reforms from Bahrain’s Sunni monarchy. Last Wednesday night turned into an ugly clash as police used rubber bullets and tear gas to force demonstrators out of the Pearl Square, a major landmark in the city. Hopefully peace will ensue shortly for the Middle East.
