Perot Systems was chosen as our partner at a time when we were in a very tough financial situation almost six years ago.  We needed some very quick impact on our revenue cycle and we decided to use Perot Systems because of their expertise and qualifications and the fact that they could add a lot of resources instantaneously to help us with the revenue cycle.

Initially, Perot Systems came into our hospital as a consultant.  And most departments really don’t like to see consultants walk through the door.  I embraced Perot Systems when they first came in.  We developed a partnership right from the beginning.  Perot Systems came in, trained all of my front-end staff, helped me develop policies and procedures and we’ve had a bond since day 1.

We’ve brought in a Nurse Auditor, in essence, to review certain key areas within the hospital to help the hospital identify issues before they become major problems for them.

We are currently in an extension of an additional three years for them.  And in those three years what we’d like to do is bring in a patient access quality assurance tool, even though that is not something that falls under our direct control, we have worked with the client to bring in some additional technology that will help other areas of the hospital.

One of the biggest initiatives that Mount Sinai Hospital has agreed to do with Perot Systems is an initiative that we call e-prime.  What e-prime is gonna allow us to do is take that information out of the hospital’s lock box, convert it into electronic format and put that into a patient accounts workflow so that when someone walks in first thing in the morning they have a list of everything they need to accomplish.  The end result of that is that there’ll be less accounts to work and more cash flow.

Perot Systems for Sinai has been a really special relationship.

It is not a revenue cycle outsourcing engagement.  It really is a revenue cycle partnership with them.

We have a tremendous leadership team who’s onsite here to handle any concerns that we have.  Not a day goes by that I am not connected with the leadership team of Perot.

And what Perot Systems has provided for us is a dedicated set of people with some dedicated technology and resources to give us the tools we need to get our patients registered appropriately, to be able to track them through the system, to be able to report what’s happening to them.  And more importantly, to make sure we get a bill out to them and are able to collect those resources and reinvest them back in patient care services.
