The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly

The ongoing saga…

The Good:  Though Veterans Day was last week, a heartfelt THANK YOU shout-out goes to the men and women in uniform for their brave and selfless service for our nation.  Washington is filled with evocative museums and memorials such as the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Arlington National Cemetery, and the National Marine Corps Museum that require us to stop and think.  So, let’s do it.

The Bad: The rest of the world’s economic leaders at the G-20 Summit in Seoul are criticizing the U.S. Federal Reserve’s monetary policy – led by China.  The international community is claiming that recent moves jeopardize the global economic recovery.  I don’t totally understand the politics but it’s clear we’re no longer in control of international economic policy.  Maybe this isn’t so bad after all?

The Ugly:  With the prospect of a whopping increase in tuition rates, over 50,000 students protested the decrease in government tuition subsidies last week in London.  What started as a normal protest, escalated with students storming the headquarters of Britain’s ruling party and spray painting anarchy symbols and setting off flares inside the conservative party’s building. The protests culminated in 51 arrests, broken windows, graffiti, head injuries, and many more headaches.  So, welcome to the U.S. model!  We pay our tuition and hope for a future…  Mostly, a positive future happens, but then again, we’ve never had deficits like the current problems facing the U.S. …
