Title:
Instructional Designer/Content Developer
Current Organization:
Southwest Airlines
Perot Systems Experience:
Instructional Designer for Recruiting Services and Learning & Development. Worked on several large projects including the complete redesign of Behavioral & Team Interviewing, migration of Hiring Manager Training from a classroom instructor-led class to a self-paced web-based training, design and development of the Client Executive Certification final assessment, and ISO 9000 Certification for Learning & Development.
What do you like most about your current role?
The ability to share my experiences and expertise in instructional and message design with a Customer Service-oriented company. Additionally, since most of my organization came from the field, I have the unique opportunity to bring innovations to the team based on outside successes.
What experience did you gain from Perot Systems that helped lead you to where you are today?
Working for Perot Systems taught me it should be expected that, for the good of a company and its employees, you look for ways to improve and grow the way business is done. This doesn’t have to be something large and highly visible. Everything you do to inspire change makes an impact.
Do you have any special memories that stand out of your time with Perot Systems?
The first thing that always comes to mind is the relationships that I built. I had an opportunity to work with some very talented individuals and watch Recruiters step out of the role they were accustomed to and become skilled Instructors. From a business standpoint, my most fond memory was the process of moving our Hiring Manager Training from a half-day classroom training to a 2.5 hour web-based training. It was rewarding to know that I was able to help reduce travel expenses and time away from customers.
Where did you go to school and what did you study?
I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of North Texas in Applied Technology in Training and Development, my Master of Education at Texas Tech University in Instructional Design, and am currently working on my Doctorate at Texas Tech University in Instructional Design, as well.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I spend a lot of time with friends and family. If there’s a movie, I’ll see it. I also enjoy golf, though my score might suggest otherwise.
