Expanding Global Recruiting

Perot Systems leaders and local luminaries inaugurate facility in Manila, Philippines

Two years ago, Steve Mooney, vice-president of Tenet Healthcare Corporation’s Patient Financial Services operations, asked Anurag Jain, president of Insurance and Business Process Solutions (IBPS) and his team to explore setting up of a delivery center in Manila, Philippines to grow Tenet’s Patient Financial Services group’s revenue cycle outsourcing. With a successful 14-year relationship with Tenet, Anurag knew this was the next step in helping Tenet grow their business and developed a project team to lead the way.

On March 21, 2007, the “idea” became a reality, when several local business and government officials joined leaders from Perot Systems to officially inaugurate the Insurance and Business Process Solutions (IBPS) facility. Peter Altabef, president and CEO, and Tenet’s Steve Mooney welcomed attendees and cut the ribbon on the Perot Systems Technology Center. This event was a fruition of nearly two years of planning and collaboration which involved several associates from across multiple functions and process groups in India and Manila to successfully establish the Perot Systems Manila center.

Peter welcomed 76 Filipino associates into Perot Systems global family and congratulated Anurag Jain, Vardhman Jain, Srinivas Rao, Enrique Cortes, Bharadwaj Asokan, David Schmidt, TNR, and Allen Roy for the successful project management and execution of the IBPS Manila facility project.

“Today we dedicate a new Perot Systems technology business center in Manila, and in doing so, we not only expand our “global footprint” to include the Philippines, but we also add on to the place we call home,” said Peter. “More importantly, we bring new members into our Perot Systems family—76 of them so far—our new Filipino family, and still growing to more than 350 IBPS associates and 50 IS associates by the end of this year. CAS is also reviewing Manila as well. The IBPS team (Anurag, Vardhman, Srinivas, Allen, TNR, Manish, Rohit), working with Enrique Cortez (who is working with both IBPS and IS), have done a marvelous job. Enrique has really done unbelievable work here. In addition to working to set up the office, he is getting us well connected with the right people. David Schmid has also done a wonderful job, having spent most of the last four months in the Philippines setting up the office. I would like to thank Radhika Jain, Vardhman’s wife for making the effort to come to Manila—her first trip outside Chennai since she and Vardhman’s automobile accident in December. Her leg was in a soft cast, and it was very brave of her to make the trip.”

During his opening remarks, Peter left associates with four key messages:

  • Communicate: innovative ideas, what is working, what is not
  • Live the company’s values & principles
  • Provide clients with the highest level of quality service
  • Refer the best and brightest and support recruitment efforts

Anurag Jain then led the delegation, which included additional leaders from across Perot Systems businesses and delivery locations: Jay Young, Irene Banias, Vic Richey, Gangaram Haridwari, Joe McNamara, and Manish Jain, on a tour of the facility. Leading luminaries from the local business and government community included: Hon. Secretary Ramon Sales, chairman of Commission on Information and Communications Technology; Ms. Lilia de Lima, director general of Philippines Economic Zone Authority; Dr. Thomas Aquino, undersecretary of Department of Trade and Industry; Ms. Celeste Ilagan, executive director of Board of Investments Promotion Group; Dr. Paulino Tan, president Asia Pacific College; Mr. Paul Jones, deputy chief of Mission, US Embassy; Ambassador Rajeet Mitter, Indian Embassy to the Philippines; Mr. Oscar Sañez, CEO of Business Processing Association/Philippines; and Mr. Mitch Locsin, executive director of Business Processing Association/Philippines.

“The Manila technology business center will be home to not only our expanded and enriched business process solutions operations, but also significant technology infrastructure operations as well, which we believe is a first for the Philippines,” said Anurag Jain.

Vardhman Jain, managing director of the IBPS Manila and India operations, spoke about the pivotal role of the Manila Business Process Service Center. “Manila’s culture of customer service, strong English language capabilities, and pool of skilled resources in the healthcare and insurance industries makes this center ideal fit for Perot Systems. Our goal is to increase awareness in the Philippines of Perot Systems’ job openings and career opportunities for high- quality technology candidates.”

The Enterprise Center is situated at the heart of the business and finance district, in one of the most popular commercial buildings in Makati City. Described as “The Business Building Designed for Building Business,” the Center showcases magnificently designed facilities, and boasts a system of designed multiple entrances and exits, with seven levels of underground parking accommodating 1,200 vehicles. The Center’s offices look at the skyscrapers of Makati City. The Perot Systems office is a 14,600 sq. ft. facility with a capacity of 160 seats located on the 22nd floor.
